Reddit hosts significant NSFW content and its default settings surface it by default for logged-in adult accounts. Blocking NSFW on Reddit takes two settings inside the app plus one honest question: if you specifically don’t want the app on your phone at all, delete it and block installs at the iOS level so it can’t come back.

Turn off NSFW inside the Reddit app

Reddit ships two related toggles that live in different places. Both need to be off.

Step 1

Enable adult content — OFF

Reddit app → tap your profile (top-left) → Settings → scroll to Adult Content → toggle Enable adult content OFF. This is the master switch.

Step 2

SFW mode ON

Same Settings menu → Feed settings → Community themes. Also under Account → NSFW → enable Blur NSFW previews. Between the two, Reddit stops surfacing NSFW thumbnails in your feed and blurs any that do slip through.

Step 3

Sign out of alt accounts

The settings above are per account. If you have a second Reddit account signed in specifically for NSFW subs, the toggles on the main account don’t apply to it. Sign out of any secondary account you don’t want to have access to.

The in-app browser problem

Reddit’s app has a built-in web view for external links. That web view doesn’t always honor Safari’s Web Content filter — depending on the iOS version and Reddit’s current implementation, tapping an external link from Reddit can load a URL that Safari would have blocked.

Two mitigations:

Reddit app → Settings → Open links in default browser → ON. Now external links open in Safari where the Web Content filter applies.
Or just delete the app.

Delete Reddit and block installs (the durable answer)

If Reddit is a repeat NSFW surface for you specifically, the answer isn’t a slightly stronger in-app toggle. It’s to remove the app and prevent it from being reinstalled at the iOS level.

Step 1

Delete the Reddit app

Long-press the Reddit icon → Remove App → Delete App.

Block app installs via Screen Time

Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → iTunes & App Store Purchases → Installing Apps → Don’t Allow. Reddit — and any other app you delete — is locked out of reinstall without knowing the Screen Time passcode.

Reddit via mobile web (reddit.com in Safari)

Even without the app, reddit.com in Safari can display NSFW content if you’re signed in to an account with NSFW enabled. Two ways to close that:

Sign out of Reddit in Safari (or in whichever browser).
Add specific Reddit domains you don’t want under Screen Time → Web Content → Never Allow. Include the desktop domain, the mobile domain (m.reddit.com), and Old Reddit (old.reddit.com).

Making it stick

Every setting above — Reddit’s own toggles, iOS Installing Apps, the Never Allow domain list — is gated by the Screen Time passcode. If you know it, you can turn everything off. If you don’t, you can’t. This is the pattern for every self-restriction attempt on iPhone.
